Wǒ xǐ huān nǐ de tóu fà (I like Your Hair)
Written in Nottingham in 2010 when I arrived in University and was surrounded by beautiful women...I had a big crush on a girl from China during first year - and many other crushes with girls from lots of places, but this song is only about the girls from China. Sadly it was not to be!
But in third year I did meet a very lovely girl, who was also from China, and we were a couple for around 8 months! But she didn't like this song...much too silly, she said.

Well, the fans loved it, so we performed it again and again, and I even took it with me to my new band after I moved to London in 2015. I contacted SOAS looking to collaborate with musicians playing Chinese instruments, and was delighted when I received a response from the a very outgoing & talented guzheng player, Muqi Li. I invited her to the studio, and we recorded this song with Nick & Adam from my old band, Timestealers, and Giusy from the new London lineup.

The band and I played it all over London (but without Muqi...she finished her masters and went to the USA where she's now very successful in all sorts of alternative music projects). Then I took it to Ghent, to my new new band, Worldwide Welshman's Belgian lineup!

They were obviously big fans of the song there, too, and invited me to play a gig with them and their friend Dong Jinming, famous erhu player from Nanjing. He played my composition! It was an honour. I think he liked the music but was possibly dubious about the lyrics...hard to know...anyway, I hoped he'd invite me to play in his festival in Nanjing, but that invitation is yet to come. Maybe next year!
